Yazmeen Collazo is a Nuyorican multidisciplinary artist, muralist, and educator born and raised in the Bronx. Her mural work spans a wide range of projects, including installations at The Bronx Public, State Farm Insurance offices in the Bronx and Westchester, Per Scholas Inc., the Police Athletic League, Bronx Aerospace HS and numerous other public and charter schools across New York City. Actively involved in the community, Yazmeen has contributed to public art initiatives such as 100 Gates, Sing for Hope Pianos, Uptown Grandscale Mural Project in East Harlem, the Audubon Mural Project, and mural festivals in Ecuador and Puerto Rico.
Yazmeen spent several years as an educator with the Queens Museum and the Museum of Arts and Design, before teaching art full-time for several years at Family Life Academy Charter School MS starting in 2019. She has since led school mural projects in NYC through partnerships with organizations such as Exploring the Arts, Creative ArtWorks, and Thrive Collective.
Yazmeen works from her studio at We Art One Artist Collective, Inc., a Yonkers-based non-profit where she also serves as Chief Operating Officer. In this role, she oversees the organization's day-to-day operations, ensuring the smooth running of its studios, programs, and community events. Yazmeen plays a key role in driving initiatives that empower artists, foster community engagement, and provide transformative arts education for youth and adults alike.
On behalf of We Art One, Yazmeen presented her workshop "From Pain to Power: Healing Youth Trauma Through Innovative Arts-Based Strategies" at 2024's New York State Division of Criminal Justice Service's inaugural NYS Youth Justice Conference: Elevating Equity and Fostering Healing. The interactive, research-based workshop explored art as a tool for resilience, growth, and empowerment for young people navigating the justice system.
Yazmeen holds a BFA in Studio Art from SUNY Purchase College in Purchase, NY.
